A live entertainment stream can change while its advertising is being planned. Running order, audience and break timing may all move, so the commercial operation needs a way to distinguish advance expectations from what is happening during the event.
IAB Tech Lab’s Live Events Ad Playbook addresses this problem through a series of recommendations and protocol work. Its published page distinguishes a final version 1.0 Concurrent Streams API from the Forecasting API and later planned components. The initiative is a developing set of parts, rather than evidence that every live-event workflow is already standardised.
Keep the forecast and the live observation separate
A publisher preparing a concert stream should label its expected audience as a forecast. When live information becomes available, the operations team should retain the distinction between the two rather than overwrite the original expectation without explanation.
A hypothetical post-event review can then ask whether the plan was realistic and what changed during transmission. That is more useful than one final number that conceals the assumptions used when inventory was offered.
Agree what happens when the schedule moves
The commercial and production teams should discuss how a changed running order is communicated. A delayed performance or an altered break can affect several partners, and the person making the programme decision may not own the advertising systems.
A rehearsal can test a representative change and record who receives it, who acts and where the updated information appears. The exercise should include the person responsible for explaining the result to the buyer.
Check each component’s actual status
When a provider describes support for a standards initiative, the publisher should ask which component and version are implemented. A roadmap item should remain visible as a roadmap item until there is evidence of delivery.
LEAP supplies a useful vocabulary for these conversations. For entertainment businesses, the immediate management task is to make the planning and live-operation records intelligible to the people trading and delivering the event.
