The same advertisement can pass through several companies before appearing on a television. When each participant identifies it differently, a campaign review can become an exercise in matching files and reports instead of understanding delivery.
IAB Tech Lab’s Ad Creative ID Framework, updated in September 2026, defines an approach to persistent creative identification across the video-advertising supply chain. The page identifies ACIF and its validation API specification as final version 1.0. The framework is designed to support activities including reconciliation and frequency management; publication of a specification does not establish that every trading partner implements it.
Ask where the identifier survives
A publisher can begin by tracing one creative through its actual workflow. Which identifier arrives with the asset, where is it stored and which identifier appears in the final report? The exercise should include the handoff between commercial and technical teams.
For a hypothetical entertainment campaign with several edits, the team should also decide how the variants will be distinguished. A shared campaign name is useful context, but it may not be enough to explain which individual asset was delivered.
Test a complete reconciliation
A capability statement becomes more useful when the provider demonstrates a representative transaction and the resulting records. The buyer should be able to connect the creative it approved with the creative identified in reporting.
Exceptions deserve a defined route. If an identifier is missing or inconsistent, the operations team needs to know who investigates and what evidence will resolve the mismatch.
Keep expected benefits separate from observed savings
A common identifier can support a better workflow, but the business should measure the work required in its own implementation before reporting a saving. Integration, checks and partner support remain part of the operating cost.
For entertainment publishers selling video inventory, ACIF provides a concrete question to take into platform discussions: can the partners preserve a usable creative identity from submission through reporting? The answer is more valuable than a general claim that the system supports modern CTV.
