Global on-demand audio consumption expanded again in the first half of 2026. For music businesses planning international activity, the useful next question is where that listening connects to an audience they can actually serve.
Luminate’s 15 July mid-year release reported worldwide on-demand audio music streams growing 9.8% to 2.8 trillion. It separately reported 11.8% growth outside the US. Those are consumption measures in Luminate’s monitored data, rather than royalty revenue or unique listeners.
Turn the global signal into a territory question
An independent label can begin with its own catalogue’s geography and the evidence available from its partners. The aim is to identify where an audience relationship is emerging and what kind of support might help it develop.
For a hypothetical artist, a rise in activity in one market could justify investigating local discovery routes, translation needs or a relevant collaborator. It does not automatically justify a tour or a large campaign. Each proposed activity needs an audience rationale and an operating plan.
Connect teams around the same release information
International promotion can involve several people working with different versions of a release brief. A shared record should make the current title, artist information, approved assets and relevant dates easy to identify.
That coordination becomes useful when a local partner requests a change. The label needs to know who can approve it and which other materials must be updated. Otherwise a small local adaptation can leave the wider campaign with inconsistent information.
Use listening data to improve a decision
A market report is most valuable when it informs a specific choice. A team might use it to frame questions for a distribution partner or to choose which audience research deserves attention next.
The follow-up should preserve the distinction between a market trend and the artist’s own results. A growing global category can contain very different experiences for individual catalogues.
Luminate’s release supplies evidence of expanding monitored consumption. A practical international strategy connects that context to an identifiable audience, a manageable activity and a way to review what the business learned.
