For a brand commissioning creator content, the commercial challenge begins before measurement. The team needs a clear account of why this creator, this audience and this format belong in the campaign.

IAB’s November 2025 creator advertising report identified selecting the right creators as a leading buyer challenge. Its forecast of US$37 billion in US creator advertising spending for 2025 described a growing market; it did not remove the work of choosing an appropriate partner.

Write the reason for the partnership

A selection memo can begin with the audience the campaign needs to serve and the role the creator’s work would play. The explanation should connect the creator’s existing content and audience to the campaign objective.

A follower total supplies one piece of context. A stronger assessment considers relevant work, how the creator communicates, the proposed format and the evidence the team can actually inspect. Unavailable information should remain a gap rather than become an assumption presented as fact.

Assess the work the commission requires

A campaign is also a production relationship. The parties need to understand the creative brief, production responsibilities, review process and delivery schedule. A creator can be well suited to an audience while still facing a timetable or production request that does not fit the proposed arrangement.

A clear brief gives the creator room to propose an approach within identifiable boundaries. It also helps a brand distinguish a material change from routine feedback, so that revisions do not silently expand the commission.

Agree what the pilot should teach

For a new relationship, a pilot can test more than audience response. It can also establish whether the teams can make decisions, review work and deliver the agreed assets reliably.

The post-campaign conversation should separate those operating observations from performance measurements. A smooth production does not prove a commercial outcome, and a strong result does not explain every part of the process.

Rising investment raises the value of a repeatable selection process. For a creator business, explaining its audience fit and operating model gives a prospective buyer a more useful basis for a partnership than a general statement about the growth of the creator economy.
