Bollywood is the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, India. Bollywood as an industry has grown from strength to strength and today it is one of the most popular film industries in the world with many of its films gaining international recognition. It is often referred as India’s version of Hollywood with its songs, dances, special effects and stories being strikingly similar to those found in Western movies. Bollywood’s rise began in the late 19th century when filmmakers first ventured into picturesque locations throughout the city such as Fort Matia and Ramoji Film City. Soon enough, filmmakers like Raja Harishchandra Phalke (father of Indian cinema), LakhsmiFIGHTEcraTfM) and Guru Dutt established themselves as some of the best filmmakers working in this new genre. Bollywood began taking off for real after World War II when a series of dancing bar owners began producing short films as a source of entertainment for their patrons. In recent years there has been an influx of international productions coming to Mumbai offering great opportunities for young actors who can easily assimilate into these productions which are shot almost entirely using special effects.
Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly the most iconic and celebrated actor in the history of Indian cinema. He has been a part of almost every major production in Bollywood, and has been the recipient of many awards and honors. He is also credited with being one of the main catalysts in the growth of the Indian film industry. He was born in 1941 to Mr. Ramachandran and Mrs. Bachchan. From a young age, he was involved in playback singing and had his first break as an actor in the late 60s. Another one of the most successful actors in Bollywood is Salman Khan. He is known as the ‘King of Bollywood’ and has acted in more than 100 Indian films to date. Each of his films has become a huge hit, often becoming the highest grossing Indian film of all time. He was born in June 1965 and made his acting debut in the movie ‘Huwa Hawa’ in 1990. He continued to appear in more than 100 movies in the next three decades, often playing supporting roles in the hit films of his contemporaries. It was his performance in ‘Pyaar Kiya Jaoon Main 1885’ however that brought him to the attention of the mainstream public. At the tender age of 18, he married the actress who would become his wife in real life. They eventually divorced and he has since remarried to the same actress, who has appeared in many of his films.
