The European Broadcasting Union’s latest AI policy submission brings media innovation, content control and professional skills into one industry position. For entertainment businesses, it is useful evidence of what a major sector organisation is asking policymakers to address.
In its 25 September 2026 statement, the EBU calls for funding for media innovation, stronger transparency around AI use of content, fair business models and investment in AI literacy. These are the organisation’s recommendations to the European Commission’s forthcoming strategy, not a statement that all the requested measures have become law.
Keep advocacy separate from the current operating rule
A company tracking policy should label a submission as a submission. The internal briefing can explain who made the recommendation, which issue it addresses and what further decision would be needed.
This helps a management team understand the debate without accidentally treating an industry request as an existing obligation or a confirmed funding programme.
Bring evidence from the business
A media company can use the discussion to identify the practical questions it needs to understand about its own content and tools. Which materials are being used, which decisions have been made and where does the team still need clarification?
The resulting record is useful beyond a policy discussion. It helps commercial and technical colleagues describe the same activity when they evaluate a supplier or review a proposed new use.
Make skills part of implementation
The EBU’s emphasis on literacy also raises a management question: do the people responsible for a workflow understand the tool well enough to assess its output and explain its limits? A training plan should connect to actual tasks and decisions.
The submission does not settle the future European framework. It does make the media sector’s concerns visible. For global entertainment businesses, the useful response is to track the policy process accurately while maintaining clear evidence about the operations already under their control.
