A film preview can become part of a shared interactive setting rather than a video encountered in isolation. Disney’s Fortnite activity for The Mandalorian and Grogu offers a concrete example of that campaign choice.

Disney’s 19 May 2026 announcement describes a Watch Party Island created with Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Fairview Portals and Beyond Creative. The experience included a ten-minute film preview and a message from Jon Favreau ahead of the theatrical release. This is an account of the campaign at launch; it does not establish current availability or a measured box-office contribution.

Give the experience a defined campaign job

An entertainment marketer considering a similar approach should identify why the audience would enter the setting and what the experience adds to the wider launch. A playable environment needs a reason to exist beyond repeating the poster.

A hypothetical campaign could use a shared setting to make a preview feel like an event. The team would still need to decide how the experience connects with the rest of the release communications and what information is useful to retain afterwards.

Bring the right production disciplines together

The Disney announcement names several specialist partners. For another brand, the planning question is which teams understand the story materials, the interactive environment and the platform’s requirements.

A clear handoff should identify who supplies approved assets, who reviews the experience and who handles changes. The commercial team should also know which materials and uses are covered by the project’s agreed scope.

Do not confuse participation with ticket sales

A campaign can generate activity within an experience without proving how many cinema purchases it caused. The measurement plan should retain that distinction and report only the evidence available.

The Watch Party Island is useful as an example of film marketing designed for an interactive audience. Its broader business lesson is to define the experience’s role, assemble the necessary partners and evaluate the result using measures appropriate to that role.
