A creator economy market map becomes more useful when it shows transactions as well as company categories. A list of platforms, agencies and tools does not reveal who pays whom or where a proposed business contributes value.
IAB’s creator advertising research examines one defined part of the economy: brand investment in creators in the United States. Its scope is a useful reminder that advertising is a particular revenue relationship, rather than a complete definition of every creator business.
Map the customer and the work
Start with a concrete transaction. A brand may commission content, an audience may pay for access, or a creator may buy a production service. Record the payer, recipient, product or service and the work needed to deliver it.
These are illustrative business relationships, not an exhaustive taxonomy. Their value is that they force a company to explain its own offer in terms of a customer and a deliverable.
Show the dependencies
A second layer can identify the channels, tools and partners on which the transaction relies. An audience relationship, an advertising account and a production workflow may sit in different systems with different responsible teams.
The map should make those dependencies visible without treating every partner as interchangeable. A discovery service and a payment process solve different problems even if both are described as creator infrastructure.
Use the map to test a business proposal
A new service should identify the step it improves and the organisation that recognises the benefit. If the proposal cannot name a buyer or explain how it fits the existing work, the market map has exposed a research question.
It can also reveal where a team is making several assumptions at once. The business might need to establish both customer demand and access to a distribution channel. Those are separate investigations and should not be hidden inside one market-size claim.
A transaction-led map gives an entertainment operator a practical view of the creator economy: identifiable work, commercial relationships and dependencies that can be examined.
